Who is this qualification for?
Essential Digital Skills are more important than ever. Since the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve experienced a world where face-to-face communication hasn’t been possible and therefore having a grasp on digital skills is vital to stay connected and work effectively.
This qualification is aimed to prepare learners for employment and/or support a role in the workplace through the development of their ICT/digital knowledge and skills.

Unit 1: Using devices and handling information
Unit 2: Creating and editing
Unit 3: Communicating
Unit 4: Transacting
Unit 5: Being safe and responsible online
The total qualification time for this qualification is 70 hours and of this 30 hours is recommended as guided learning hours.
This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence.
Evidence collected for each unit should be both adequate and suitable for the requirements of the unit/qualification. Suggested type of evidence include observations, questions, products or sample of practical work, professional discussion records, expert witness records, learning logs and video or audio recordings. All of which could be gathered in the classroom or the workplace.

Digital Skills – facts and figures
A 2018 report conducted by Lloyds Bank UK Consumer Digital Index found that in the UK:
- 11.3 million people (21%) lack the full basic digital skills
- 4.3 million (8%) have no basic digital skills at all
- 5.4 million working adults (10%) are without basic digital skills
- people with a registered disability are 4 times as likely to be offline
- 28% of those aged 60+ are offline.
These statistics undoubtedly prove the need for essential digital skills, especially for adults.
Research1 has shown that those with high digital engagement see lifestyle and health benefits from this: 87% say it helps them to connect better with friends and family and 84% say it helps them to organise their life.

Entry Requirement
Learners should be 14 or over and it is recommended that they have a good level of literacy (verbal and written) skills.
