What is Blended Learning?

Blended learning combines the best of both worlds — the motivation and interaction of live tutor-led classes with the flexibility of self-paced e-learning. Rather than committing to fixed daily attendance or studying entirely alone, you get a structured learning journey with expert support built in throughout.

How the course is structured

Our NEBOSH National Diploma Blended Learning course consists of:

  • 15 days of live virtual classes delivered in real-time via Microsoft Teams, split across 3 weeks over the course of the year
  • Unlimited access to our online learning platform for self-paced private study between sessions
  • Constant tutor support throughout the entire course — not just during live classes

Is blended learning right for you

Blended learning is ideal if you:

  • Work full-time and need flexibility around your job
  • Want the accountability and motivation of regular tutor contact
  • Prefer interactive learning over studying entirely on your own
  • Need to balance your studies with other personal commitments

If you’d prefer to study entirely at your own pace, we also offer the NEBOSH National Diploma Online course.

How is the NEBOSH National Diploma Assessed?

This NEBOSH qualification takes a hands-on approach to learning. Unit DN1 is assessed with a practical assignment made up of scenario-based questions, workplace activities, reflective tasks, and a short research project. Units DN2 and DN3 are assessed with a case study and scenario-based questions. These are all online open book assessments.

Each assessment is completed electronically and submitted through the NEBOSH exam portal. You’ll have between 2-4 weeks to complete your assessments from your chosen exam date.

You must pass all three units to achieve your full NEBOSH Diploma. Your total number of marks will determine your final qualification grade.

FAQ

The NEBOSH General Certificate is a great place to start with your health and safety learning. It covers a broad range of topics and is the ideal course for those looking to start their health and safety career.

The NEBOSH Diploma is a more advanced course aimed at those who are already working in a health and safety role.

The NEBOSH National Diploma qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). It is the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). The next step is completing a Skills Development Portfolio. Once you have passed all of the units you will also need to maintain your continuing professional development (CPD). You will be asked to attend a peer review interview.

When you pass your first unit, your enrolment period is automatically re-set and you have a further 5 years to pass the remaining two units. In other words, your first unit has a shelf-life of 5 years. If you do not pass the remaining two units within 5 years, your first unit will expire and you will have to retake this unit in order to pass the qualification.

Results will be issued 50 working days from the examination date and sent to the email address registered to your learner record.

Please add info@nebosh.org.uk to your safe-senders list to help your results email reach you. This is particularly important for gmail.com and googlemail.com email addresses as these have previously had problems with rejected emails.

Results are sent out via email in the days leading up to results day. This means that some people may receive theirs early, but everyone will still receive their result on or before results day as planned. The time you receive your result is not a reflection of a pass or refer mark, so please do not worry that you have been referred if you receive your result later than a friend or classmate.

We recommend that you keep a copy of your original submission until your results are declared should there be any technical difficulties.

Congratulations! If you have passed, NEBOSH will print your certificate within 20 working days of the Result Notification Date.

If you are a UK resident, your certificate and/or parchment will be sent to you directly. If you are based outside the UK, your certificate and/or parchment will be sent to your Learning Partner who will distribute it to you.

The NEBOSH National Diploma is designed to be completed over approximately 18 months to 2 years, though NEBOSH allow up to 5 years to complete each unit. With our blended learning course, the live virtual classes are spread across the year giving you time to study and prepare between each unit. At Horizon Risk Consultancy we also provide access to our online learning platform for 3 years, giving you plenty of time to revisit materials and consolidate your learning throughout your studies.

For anyone serious about a career in health and safety, the NEBOSH Diploma is widely considered the gold standard qualification. Almost half of senior health and safety job adverts specify a NEBOSH Diploma, and 40% of graduates achieve a salary increase after completing it. It also meets the academic requirements for Graduate Membership of IOSH (Grad IOSH), putting you on the path to Chartered status.

The NEBOSH Diploma is a Level 6 qualification — equivalent to a degree-level module — so it does require a serious commitment to study. However, with our blended learning format you benefit from constant tutor support and live classes to guide you through the more challenging content, rather than having to work through it alone.
