NG1 – Four elements made up of:

- 3: Managing risk – understanding people and processes
- 4: Health and safety monitoring and measuring
NG2 – Practical risk assessment exercise demonstrating an understanding of elements 5 – 11:
- 5: Physical and psychological health
- 6: Musculoskeletal health
- 7: Chemical and biological agents
- 8: General workplace issues
- 9: Work equipment
- 10: Fire
- 11: Electricity
How is the NEBOSH General Certificate Assessed?
There are two assessments for the NEBOSH General Certificate that take place on a monthly basis:
- NG1: An online open-book assessment on the knowledge gained in elements 1 – 4
- NG2: A practical assignment to demonstrate the skills learned in elements 5 – 11
You need to pass both assessments to achieve your NEBOSH National General Certificate.

FAQ
NEBOSH General Certificates, both National and International are equivalent to a Level 3 qualification or an A level.
The NEBOSH General Certificate has a recommended study time of between 80 - 120 hours. There is no required amount of time to take the course, it can take as much or as little time as you want.
The NEBOSH General Certificate is an important qualification to have if you are serious about a career in Health and Safety. Therefore it is definitely worth it as it can help kick-start your career.
NEBOSH has a limit of 5 years from the completion of the first unit that you need to have completed the remaining unit.
Our e-learning course is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, this is usually more than enough time to complete the course and sit the exams. If you will not complete the course within 12 months, you will have to purchase a course extension fee and re-purchase the exam fee as these also expire within 12 months.
Registered learners will receive an email with instructions on how to access the digital assessment platform ahead of their assessment. Assessments will be downloaded from the platform and you will log back in to upload your completed assessment to the platform.
Please note: NEBOSH can only accept assessments in PDF format. From September 2023 onwards, assessments submitted in file formats other than PDF will be declined.

NEBOSH's Digital Assessments are assessed using an open book format. This type of examination assesses the same learning outcomes and assessment criteria as an invigilated paper-based examination. Unlike an invigilated paper-based examination, learners can have access to textbooks and the internet and are expected to reference any external sources used. The questions asked will test the learner’s ability to analyse, evaluate and apply their learning. The assessments are accessed and submitted online.
