CITB Approved Course

Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (RQF) is regulated by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is recognized by CITB (The Construction Industry Training Board) the Industry Training Board for the construction industry and a partner in ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council. Successful learners who also complete the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment knowledge test can apply for the CSCS Labourer card which will enable them to gain access to construction sites.

Who is this qualification for?

The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (RQF) qualification is for those who require the CSCS Green Labourer Card to get on a construction site. It is ideal for anyone who working in, or aspiring to work in, the construction industry, as well as for those already in the industry looking to refresh their knowledge. The Level 1 Award provides a basic introduction to potential construction site hazards and control measures to undertake the jobs safely.

Horizon Risk Consultancy Ltd is a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO) for delivering high-quality construction health and safety training courses and qualifications that meet defined industry approved standards. CITB (The Construction Industry Training Board) is the Industry Training Board for the construction industry and a partner in ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council.

To register for this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements:

  • be 14 years of age or above
  • have a basic level of literacy

The CITB Construction Training Directory is where you will be able to find the training you need that is delivered by CITB Approved Training Organisations (ATOs). Searching for courses in the Directory is open to everyone, you do not need a login to access it.

You can claim up to £30 as long as you provide us with your CITB Levy number either at the time of booking or on the day of the course.

CITB has determined which courses are eligible for grants, if you’re an employer in the construction industry you’ll want to be able to claim grants when your employees attend these courses. To be able to do this, your organisation must be registered with CITB and you need to book your training with an ATO. Otherwise, in future, you will not be able to claim for eligible courses delivered by companies who are not ATOs.

Approved Training Organisations are required to upload delegate achievements to the Construction Training Register within 10 days of successful completion of an eligible training course. This upload then triggers your grant payment.

To upload the achievements, we require the following delegate information…

  • Name Address
  • DOB
  • Email address
  • NI number
  • CITB Levy number

This can either be recorded at the time of booking or by completing the paperwork at the start of the course

These include common hazards and risks in a construction environment, safe manual handling practices, working safely at height and working safely around plant and machinery. It also covers the importance of effective teamwork and communications in ensuring safe working practices are followed in the construction industry.
