Which NEBOSH Course Should I Choose in 2022?

If you are looking to complete a NEBOSH qualification in 2022 then you might be wondering which qualification is the right one for my situation. Well fear not, because in this article we will briefly outline who each NEBOSH course is intended for in order to help you make an informed decision.

National General Certificate

Who is it for?

The NEBOSH NGC is for those starting their careers in health and safety. Focusing on health and safety laws and guidance about the UK and the UK’s legislation, it is recommended for those looking to or already working within the UK.

How is it assessed?

The NGC is assessed using a two part assessment. Part one covers the first topic and is examined with an online Open-Book Exam (OBE) as well as the following closing interview.

The second topic is assessed with a practical risk assessment. You will have approximately two weeks to complete the second part of the assessment.

International General Certificate

Who is it for?

Also for those starting or thinking about starting a career in health and safety. Focuses on international codes of best practice as opposed to UK legislation. Therefore, it is recommended for learners who are looking to work outside of the UK.

How is it assessed?

The IGC is assessed the same way as the NGC with an Open-Book Exam and a practical risk assessment.

National Diploma

Who is it for?

Primarily for those seeking a more senior position in health and safety. It is one of the most popular ways to advance knowledge of the best health and safety practices. It builds directly upon the knowledge that is taught in the National General Certificate course. As such it is highly recommended that you have already completed the National General Certificate prior to enrolling on the Diploma Course.

How is it assessed?

3 units in an online assessment made up of Scenario based questions, workplace activities, reflective tasks and a short research project. You will have between 4 and 6 weeks to submit your completed assessment.

Process Safety Management

Who is it for?

It is designed for learners all around the world who work in process industries such as oil and gas, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. There are no prior qualifications required. It is ideally recommended for managers and supervisors in these industries but it is open to anyone.

How is it assessed?

As of 2022, the Process Safety Management Exam is now completed via a multiple-choice online examination, you will have 24 hours to complete the exam and submit to the NEBOSH online assessment portal. Read more about the new 2022 assessment at NEBOSH’s website.
